Tarangire National Park is a breathtakingly photogenic destination, renowned for its remarkable diversity of species and notable elephant population. The park gets its name from the Tarangire River, which flows through its center from the southern side towards the northwest outlet in Lake Burungi. Part of the larger Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem, the park spans approximately 35,000 square kilometers.

The park is famous for its stunning savannah landscapes and its vast number of Baobab trees, which provide habitat for various bird and bat species. This combination creates a truly sublime experience for visitors.

Located in an arid region, Tarangire supports a wooded savannah dominated by species like Acacia, Terminalia, Combretum, and Commiphora. The park’s diverse vegetation includes riverine woodlands, Acacia tortilis parkland, wetlands and seasonal flood plains, acacia-commiphora woodlands, riverine grasslands, combretum-dalbergia woodlands, acacia drepanolobium woodlands, rocky hilltop (kopjes) vegetation, deep gully vegetation, and grasslands dotted with Baobab trees.

During the dry season, the park serves as a refuge for a wide variety of migratory wildlife within the Tarangire-Maasai Steppe ecosystem. It is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 550 bird species, particularly abundant in the open Acacia woodlands, around the Silale Swamp wetlands, and along the flood plains of the Tarangire River.
